Don’t Look Down, 2019
Another work that popped into my head whilst googling art collectors’ houses was Don’t Look Down. Adam Lowe of Factum Arte asked me if I would like to design a carpet. I had the idea of a rug featuring a homeless man almost immediately, but it made me so uncomfortable that it took six months before I could draw it and send the design to the rug makers in Spain. Now I see it in the flesh, it is that very discomfort, how the subject matter and the delicious colours fight each other, that makes Don’t Look Down a satisfying artwork. I truly wonder who will put this carpet on their floor.
